During the first five months of the year, 3,100 companies with foreign ownership were registered in Russia, marking the highest figure for this period in the past eight years. According to Izvestia, the number of newly established foreign companies exceeded the number of liquidated ones by 7% for the first time since 2023.
Chinese businesses accounted for the largest share of new registrations, representing 58% of the total. Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Armenia also ranked among the leading countries, while companies from Türkiye, the UAE, India, and South Korea continued to expand their presence in the Russian market.
The strongest growth was recorded in e-commerce, transport and logistics, construction, industrial electronics and software, pharmaceuticals, packaging and polymer manufacturing, as well as agricultural processing.
According to Sergey Katyrin, President of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, foreign businesses are increasingly establishing representative offices, joint ventures, assembly facilities, and distribution centers in Russia, shifting from one-off export deliveries to a long-term market presence.
The eight-year record in new foreign company registrations reflects a broader transformation in the structure of international business operating in Russia. As the presence of many European companies has declined, market opportunities have increasingly been taken up by businesses from China and other friendly countries, reshaping the geography of foreign investment. Russia continues to attract international investors, while new market participants are building long-term manufacturing, trade, and logistics partnerships that support the development of sustainable international supply chains.
