In the world of logistics, challenges occasionally arise that seem nearly impossible to overcome. One such challenge is transporting equipment whose dimensions far exceed standard aviation cargo hold limits. So, how do you tackle such a task?
Special Cargo, Special Approach
ACEX received an urgent request to transport high-tech equipment from Shenzhen, China, to Moscow. The cargo was exceptionally large, with one unit standing at 2.5 meters tall—90 cm taller than a standard aircraft cargo hold allows.
Given the cargo’s high value and importance to the client, this was no simple task.
To solve the problem, ACEX turned to a trusted partner—an airline specializing in oversized and heavy cargo transportation. The optimal solution? Using an Ilyushin Il-76TD-90VD aircraft.

The Il-76 is a large transport aircraft.
The Il-76TD-90VD modification is equipped with advanced PS-90A-76 engines and has a maximum takeoff weight of 195 tons.
Its cargo cabin measures 24.5 meters long, 3.45 meters wide, and 3.4 meters high.
This upgraded version has no geographical flight restrictions.
The aircraft is in demand across Russia, North America, Europe, Japan, and Australia, serving industries such as heavy machinery, oil & gas, automotive, aerospace, as well as humanitarian and government organizations worldwide.
The Il-76 can deliver cargo to remote locations, including drifting research stations in the Arctic Ocean, using various parachute airdrop methods. Its capabilities have set multiple world aviation records.
Thanks to the Il-76, ACEX successfully handled this order, ensuring the safe delivery of the oversized equipment without disassembly. However, as often happens in logistics, unexpected delays arose: the flight was initially canceled due to Russian holidays. Then, upon arrival in Urumqi, additional maintenance was required, further extending the timeline. Despite these hurdles, the cargo was successfully delivered to Moscow on June 13.
